What Do You Want in a Hotel?

Hotel ReservationBefore you book your next hotel reservation, consider what you really want out of it. It is almost automatic to book the one that might be cheapest, but there are factors you need to take into account.

How far is it from where you want to be? If you are going to Miami for a week for a convention, seeing on your current screen that the hotel you are about to book is 15 miles from the convention center might not seem like a big deal at the moment. That is because the convention center and the hotel are both a thousand miles from where you are currently sitting. But imagine having to drive those 15 miles twice a day! Check the local roads and traffic conditions to know how long this will take.

What kind of amenities are you really going to need? If you are just crashing somewhere for a night between flights or boarding a cruise ship, you might just need a bed and a quick snack. If you are staying somewhere for multiple nights, a pool, exercise room and continental breakfast might be more up your alley. Even a complimentary newspaper and manager hour to mingle with other guests can provide some badly needed relaxation on a trip.

Do you want to go on price alone? Look at how many stars a hotel has. This is not just how many stars it is industry rated as, but how many stars previous customer’s rate it. In order to not get confused with the industry stars, other rating scales like A through F or 1 through 10 are more commonly used. Look past perfect scores and see just how many ratings were logged for that average. Any place with a perfect 10 rating from just one customer might not be as safe a bet as another that averages a 9.1 across twenty customers.
